About Upwards Church

Who Are We?

Upwards Church is a church that is all about Loving God, Loving People, and Sharing Jesus. We focus on loving God through our worship and giving together on the weekends. We focus on loving people in our Connect Groups during the week. We focus on sharing Jesus on our ministry, outreach, and missions teams.

Why Do We Exist?

Upwards Church exists to equip families for life. We serve the entire family and want to give parents every tool they will need to care for and nurture their children in the ways of Jesus.

What We Believe At Upwards Church

  • What we believe about god

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1,26,27, and 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

  • What we believe about Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is co-equal with the Father and has existed since the beginning of time. As the Son of God, Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday. (Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5;,and 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13)

  • What we believe about the holy spirit

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and Jesus Christ. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives all believers a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, and 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, and 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18)

  • What we believe about the bible

The Bible is God's word to us written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105,160, and 12:6; Proverbs 30:5)

  • What we believe about human beings

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin." This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1,2)

  • What we believe about salvation

Salvation is God's free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ, as God's offer of forgiveness, can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6, and 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1)

  • What we believe about eternity

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. (John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelations 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9)

  • COMMITTING YOUR LIFE TO CHRIST

God loves you and has a plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). Your sin causes a cosmic chasm separating you from God (Isaiah 59:2). God sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins (Romans 5:8). It's your choice to believe and receive the gift of life through Christ and become a child of God (John 1:12). If you have made the decision to follow Christ and commit your life to Him (Romans 10:9-10), please let us know so we can celebrate with you and encourage your next step in Baptism.

  • BAPTISM BY imMERSION

Baptism is a symbol of Christ's burial & resurrection. It is a symbol of your new life as a Christian and an outward profession of faith. Baptism is the next step in your spiritual journey after making a decision to follow Jesus. Scripture teaches that everyone who believes should be baptized as soon as they have believed (Luke 3:3).

The only requirement to be baptized is that you’ve begun a personal relationship with Jesus. If you’ve taken that step, then baptism is definitely right for you! Scripture also teaches that baptism is a way to recognize the new life that you have started in following Christ (Romans 6:4). The Bible clearly teaches that baptism is the first step of obedience after making a commitment to Christ. For more information about baptism, please visit our Blog at:

What Does It Mean To Be A Member Of Upwards Church?

When an individual is saved, he becomes a member of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13). Because he is united to Christ and other members of the body in this way, he is therefore qualified to become a member of a local expression of that body.

To become a member is to formally commit oneself to an identifiable local body of believers who have joined together for specific, divinely ordained purposes. These purposes include receiving instruction from God's word (1 Timothy 4:13; 2 Timothy 4:2), serving and edifying one another through the proper use of spiritual gifts (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-31; 1 Peter 4:10-11), participating in the ordinances (Luke 22:19; Acts 2:38-42), and proclaiming the gospel to those who are lost (Matthew 28:18-20). In addition, when one becomes a member, he submits himself to the care and the authority of the biblical qualified elders that God has placed in that assembly.

Living out a commitment to the church involves many responsibilities: exemplifying a godly lifestyle in the community, exercising one's spiritual gifts in a diligent service, contributing financially to the work of the ministry, giving and receiving admonishment with meekness and in love, and faithfully participating in corporate worship. Much is expected, but much is at stake. For only when every believer is faithful to this kind of commitment is the church able to live up to her calling as Christ's representative here on earth. To put it simply membership matters and expresses love and obedience to Jesus.

Church Membership Is Important!

At Upwards Church, we value membership. To us, Upwards is more than a platform for preaching and furthering the gospel--we're a community of believers. As believers, we are to live out our Christian lives in the context of the local church. In the same way that the physical body has different, interconnected members, Paul tells us that we are "members one of another." While you could remain a guest of Upwards or even a regular attender of our weekend services, the real value of Upwards begins with membership. Membership implies a commitment to the Upwards family. It's your way of saying, "Count on me!" In turn, we promise to commit Upwards resources to meet your spiritual needs. That's our way of saying, "You can count on us!"

Joining Upwards Church allows you to be a part of a powerful kingdom community and receive the blessings of being a member. The prerequisites of becoming a member is that you've completed previous next steps such as, commitment to Christ, Baptism, commitment to God's word, attending Upwards Church regularly, giving, connected in a group and/or serving in a ministry, and commitment to grow in following Christ.

If you are interested in become a member, please go to the connection center for more information or contact a ministry team or connect group leader.
